Bushfire Commemoration Service
17 Feb 2010
The Campus held a Bushfire Commemoration Service on Friday 5 February. The Chairman of the Board of Governors and several Board members and invited guests joined the Principal, staff and students in a brief but poignant service to remember the losses from the Fires of 2009.
At the Service, led by our Chaplain, Rev David Fuller, a sculpture commemorating the fires was unveiled by the Chairman. Representatives from The Ridgeway Campus Class of 2009 who raised funds in the immediate aftermath of the fires, along with relatives of Ivanhoe Grammar School community members who were significantly affected by the fires, were also present to witness the event.
The funds raised by The Ridgeway Campus Class of 2009 were used to commission the sculpture, which will be an enduring symbol of both the sadness associated with the fires and a reminder of the recovery and regeneration of both communities and the land.
The sculptor, Ms Julia Anderson was present at the Service and we thank her for her generosity in donating her time and efforts to see the sculpture completed. The sculpture is rich in symbolism and is truly a work of art. It sits in a small garden area and will offer a point for reflection for years to come.
