Secondary Sport

We encourage a sense of fair play and good spirit

The sporting program at Ivanhoe encourages active participation, fitness and fun over a comprehensive range of summer and winter sports. Students are encouraged to be active and to enjoy a range of sports in a friendly team environment.

The School is part of the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria (AGSV) which has nine member schools for boys and the AGSV/APS competition for girls. The Associations have very strong traditions and aim to encourage high standards, and foster a sense of fair play and good spirit between teams and schools.

All students take part in the School's sporting program. Students train in their chosen sport during the week and participate in the AGSV/APS competition on Saturday mornings.

A wide variety of sports are offered including Basketball, AFL Football, Soccer, Rugby, Volleyball, Hockey, Tennis, Netball, Cricket, Aerobics, Lawn Bowls, Water Polo as well as Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country, Kayaking, Snowsports and Equestrian.

Impressive new Head Coaches have been appointed to Basketball, AFL Football, Tennis and Soccer. These include Katrina Hibbert, Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist in Basketball, Colin Kinnear, former Sydney Swans Head Coach, Liz Minter, former Federation Cup player and Ian Greener, former Head Coach of Soccer at Victorian Institute of Sport.

There are also opportunities for students to participate in sporting tours and competitions as well as entry into community based competitions.
Development Squads are offered in a number of sports for players who show talent and commitment with elite performers able to participate in the AGSV representative teams.

The aim of the School's sporting program is to:

• Assist each student's growth through the discovery of their talents
• Encourage students to contribute to the School community
• Facilitate strong staff- student relationships outside the classroom

House Competitions

Every student is placed into one of Ivanhoe Grammar School’s four houses: Sherwood, Athelstane, Lincoln or Thoresby. Each house is made up of students from Years 7 to 12 so it’s a great opportunity for students to make friends with those in other year levels. The house swimming and athletics carnivals give students an opportunity to support their team, build camaraderie and have fun.
